DENVER – For many children, a vacation is a dream come true. But Janae McCormick had a different dream – to go back home. Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a network of Mayflower agents, Janae’s wish came true. Denver-based Buehler Moving & Storage partnered with Minnesota-based and fellow Mayflower agent Metcalf Moving & Storage and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota to move Janae McCormick and her family back home to Denver.

“The McCormick’s story is absolutely heart-warming. When we received the call that they were coming home, we wanted to help right away,” said Karyn Henry, director of corporate relocations for Buehler Moving & Storage. “Moving an entire family can be stressful, and our team wanted to bring Janae’s family some peace of mind as they settle back into life in Denver.”

The McCormick’s journey began in 2007, when their daughter was diagnosed with scleroderma, a disorder that hardens the skin and connective tissue. When Janae’s condition worsened, they made a great sacrifice – they packed up their home in Denver and moved more than 800 miles away so Janae could receive specialized treatment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

During Janae’s stay at Mayo Clinic, the McCormick family contacted the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and she soon became eligible to have a wish granted. Janae originally wished for a trip to Ireland, but just a few weeks after a heart transplant, she was in remission and cleared to leave the clinic. With renewed hope and improving health, Janae’s new wish was simple – to go home.

Make-A-Wish Foundation prepared for the big move by contacting Rochester’s Metcalf Moving & Storage, who moved the family back home to Colorado and coordinated with Buehler Moving & Storage in Denver to store the McCormick’s belongings once they arrived.

“We were honored to make Janae’s wish of moving home come true, and we are very grateful to the Mayflower agents for their flawless support in making Janae’s wish a reality,” said Julie Dover, wish coordinator for Make-A-Wish Foundation of Minnesota.
